Come June 19th, Drag City Records will be releasing Silver Jews' Early Times, an album comprised of recordings made when David Berman, Stephen Malkmus, and Bob Natasnovich were merely muppet-baby versions of themselves, young post-collegiates who were footloose and fancy-free, to say the least. Recorded by just these three in a room and captured so incredibly imperfectly, the songs lodged on Early Times are tracks from the original 7" EP, Dime Map of the Reef, and the 12" EP, The Arizona Record, documenting the telepathic counter-intuition between these singers who went into such specific different directions later in life. Both 'Dime Map of the Reef' and 'The Arizona Record' are fuzzed up and blissed out like many a favorite contemporary record, only earlier, and long out of print! Listen via the link below to 'Secret Knowledge of Back Roads,' one of these early tracks off Early Times', premiered via The FADER earlier this week.
