Voted “most likely to outlast music’s all-trap-everything phase,” Baauer makes the leap from having a hot single on Mad Decent to playing with the big boys on Rinse and signing to Scottish purveyor of all things beat related, Lucky Me. This is everything you’d expect: laser synths, claps galore and more hi-hats than an 87th floor haberdashery. It also works as a handy summary for everything that’s happened in this particular mutation of Hip-Hop over the past 12 months and Lady Gaga is nowhere to be seen. That’s always a good thing – if I catch any tight jeaned DJs droping that one, I’m dragging from the decks and taking over they’re set. Some things, like the lambada, are forbidden.
