Watch: The National Open for President Barack Obama in Des Moines, Iowa

Via the National's Instagram

On Saturday, the National opened a rally for President Barack Obama in Des Moines, Iowa. Watch fan footage of the band playing "Bloodbuzz Ohio" below.

It's not the first time the band have shown support for Obama. In 2008, they played a rally in Ohio for Obama's presidential campaign (along with the Breeders), and their song "Fake Empire" was used in Obama campaign ads. During the 2010 midterms, they opened for the President in Wisconsin. In 2008, the National also sold t-shirts and pins to benefit the Obama campaign, using the title of their song "Mr. November".

Prior to the Des Moines rally on Saturday, the band's guitarist Aaron Dessner gave an interview to Des Moines Metromix about the band's relationship to politics. Also, hear frontman Matt Berninger talk to Iowa Public Radio's Sarah McCammon about his expectations regarding Obama here.

Check out their performance of "Bloodbuzz Ohio" below, and scroll for photos of the event taken from the band's Instagram account. Also below, watch the National perform "Mr. November" at the 2009 Pitchfork Music Festival.
