MP3: The Sea Life – “Sex Appeal, Pt. 1″ -> “Body Language, Pt. 2″
Just released today, In Basements is the new full-length from infectious DC-based rockers The Sea Life. One of the album’s best cuts, “Coin Machine”, alternates between an anthemic chorus bursting with jubilation, and a slightly gritty verse that borders more on spoken-word than melodic crooning. The contrast is noticeable, but remains cohesive and within the band’s style of jangled art-rock. “Coin Machines” is one of the band’s more energetic tracks, showing merely one side of their excellent release. The ethereal jams “Sex Appeal, Pt. 1″ and “Body Language, Pt. 2″ join together to create one stunning effort that touches on elements of post-rock and dream-pop with its rich guitar extensions and mammoth percussive twists. The vocals don’t arrive until the mid-point of the latter, reminding again of the band’s infectious rock elements. But it quickly returns to the instrumental beauty of the preceding few minutes, a stunning showcase of the band’s melodic wit. I joined the two efforts together above, to make the streaming easier.
