Formed in 1986, (previously Karl was a member of cult heroes The Waterboys), World Party carried the torch for intelligent pop and outstanding live musicianship. The group recorded five critically acclaimed albums, including the Grammy nominated Goodbye Jumbo, which won the first ever Q Magazine “Album of the Year” award in 1990 and a series of hit singles, from Ship Of Fools, their first US top 30, through Put The Message In The Box and Is It Like Today? to She's the One, subsequently recorded by Robbie Williams, earning Williams a No.1 in many countries and a Brit Award.
Karl left EMI in 1999 and is one of the few artists to have regained full ownership of his entire catalogue. He then setup Seaview Records, which became the new home of World Party.
In 2001 Wallinger suffered a brain aneurysm and was laid low for five years. Happily over that time he fully recovered and since 2006 World Party have been working in the USA (and Australia/New Zealand) performing more shows than ever before, from festivals like Bonaroo, The Not Strictly Bluegrass Festival, South by SouthWest, small intimate clubs, theatres, radio and television.
Last year saw World Party release Arkeology, their critically acclaimed 5 CD collection of 70 songs, live recordings, demos, radio sessions, covers, and most importantly, NEW SONGS!
These new shows will give people the chance to hear World Party songs performed in a completely different way and are not to be missed! This tour is the World Party way of saying, “We’re back!” More live shows with the full band will follow soon.
