It’s easy to become enamored with the slick psych-pop of Salt Lake City-based five-piece Cliffs. “Four Seasons”, the first single off their upcoming album, finds its footing on phase-friendly guitar licks and haunting vocals reminiscent of Luke Haines’ nasally elegance. The warbly verses are understated but subtly infectious; they serve as a proper road to a soaring chorus, influenced by anthemic Brit-pop in its whirring background harmonizing. “Free, I felt so free,” they then sing during a gentle acoustic bridge, just before a reprise of the explosively contagious chorus. You also have to love their quality logo above, Cliffs’ name camouflaged into zebra fur. Keep an eye on their new album, set to be released in the next month or two.
