London songstress Lydia Baylis has been causing a stir on the London scene the past year. A well-spoken girl with a voice that packs punches, Lydia’s vocal tone is comparable to the likes of Dido, with a dark edge reminiscent of pre-album Daughter. Her new track “Mirrors” is an almost haunting variation on her earlier, somewhat lighter work, in the vein of MS MR or Cat Power. Co-written alongside Paul Statham (Dido, Kylie Minogue), Richard Cardwell (Annie Lennox) and Owen Parker (Pet Shop Boys), the song-writing focuses around an obsessive lust filled with jealousy and fear and the accompanying video meanders between almost schizophrenic scenes. Lydia’s sound transforms to the live-stage very seamlessly as she’s regularly joined by a full backing band that adds power to her voice. Her debut album, A Darker Trace is set for release in early 2014.
