The Silver State – “The Colorado” (Stereogum Premiere)

The Silver State is a “quiet psych” act specializing in dreamy vast-landscape folk-rock more befitting the American West than the band’s native Brooklyn. So it only makes sense that the lead single from the Silver State’s upcoming LP Outside is about the Colorado river. “The Colorado” has a bleary-eyed float and gentle glimmer that remind me of Wilco’s “Sunken Treasure,” but the song’s spaced-out depiction of mountainous terrain recalls the likes of Grandaddy and the Microphones. And when that guitar solo rips into the frame about two minutes in, it elicits chills on par with Built To Spill’s best work. As always, Neil Young’s spirit lingers too. There’s so much to love about this beautiful sprawl, so let it wash over you below.
