The Grammys announced their nominations with some extra flash and fanfare this year, flipping the usual early morning podium announcement into a primetime concert special live from the Staples Center in L.A. LL Cool J, who hosted last year’s Grammy broadcast, was back to MC this show as he will for the ceremony on 1/26. Performers included inescapable 2013 stars Lorde, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Robin Thicke, Katy Perry, and Taylor Swift, all of whom received nominations in major categories. Keith Urban and Miguel teamed for a typically suave cover of Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine,” too, which was truly pleasant. But the big news was the unveiling of the nominations for the major categories. Find those below.
South Philly hardcore/punk activists Cop Problem's latest battle cry, Buried Beneath White Noise, is charged with the quartet's most enraged anthems yet. With four new tracks engineered by Will Yip (Paint It Black, Circa Survive, Balance & Composure), the dueling thunder of guitarist Randon Martin and bassist George G create diverse and deadly riffage, the percussive backbone provided by Joshua Cohen unilaterally devastates with white-knuckled blasting rolls while his sibling Deb Cohen violently unloads a torrent of vocal fury in retaliation to the vast, daily injustices afflicting innocent life around the globe.
Cop Problem recently self-released Buried Beneath White Noise digitally, but this week the final plans are being locked on the pending physical manifestation of the EP. The 7" pressing will be released in February 2014 through an international joint effort between British DIY label, Prejudice Me, for European territories, and NYC-area-based and Earsplit-operated, The Compound, for North America. Preorders will be available immediately following the start of the year.

I love this band and this song . Can’t wait to share their newest HearYa Live Session with you. In the meantime enjoy their latest video release.
Aan tours and performs as a four piece, often turning versions of their recordings upside down. Frontman Bud Wilson reaches octaves of the late Jeff Buckley, while maintaining a grittier timbre. The rest of the band follows suit by matching Wilson's caterwaul with cooing harmonies and a measured rhythmic pulse. Aan's blend of discordance and harmony has earned the group touring support with alt rock juggernauts like The Smashing Pumpkins and indie legends Built to Spill. Aan has also performed alongside indie stalwarts like Wye Oak, Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Red Fang, Gardens & Villa, Bosnian Rainbows and many others.
The band's debut record, Amor Ad Nauseum, will be released on Portland imprint Party Damage on February 4. Recorded over two years in various studios and a cabin on the Oregon coast, the album explores themes of the devotion, desire, complacency, loneliness, and desperation. Though the locations vary, a thick sonic thread runs track to track through the release's nine songs. More confident than most debut albums and more urgent than albums from most of Aan’s peers, Amor Ad Nauseum is a sticky, lush labor of love and lust. Aan has performed at SXSW, Noise Pop, MusicFestNW, and countless dates across the United States. With the release of the band’s new LP, Aan will resume it’s hectic touring schedule.
