The duo recently handed power over to their fans to release a brand new song. The band placed 10 QR codes in 10 different cities around the world and the track was unlocked once all the codes had been discovered. Click below to hear "The Perfect Mess"...
"For this album we packed up all our stuff, got in a van and drove to Berlin, where we lived for months in a rented studio space," explains Steve. "No producer, no engineer, no A&R people, just us two in a big concrete room in Kreuzberg, jamming and recording our songs whenever we wanted, how we wanted with nobody to answer to except ourselves. It came out as our rawest, heaviest, sexiest and most confident sounding record so far”.

Blood Red Shoes is the band’s fourth album, but the first one they’ve self-produced, having previously worked extensively with Arctic Monkeys producer Mike Crossey .“Everything was so perfect on our third album (‘In Time To Voices’), but we realised that the imperfections are what makes our band – that’s what people like about us,” says singer/guitarist Laura Mary Carter.
A new sense of positivity has also permeated the lyrics on their forthcoming album. “Our default setting as a band is to write from a negative perspective,” says Ansell. “… this time it’s about being hedonistic and free and not worrying so much.” One song in particular, ‘Everything All At Once’, comes from “the idea that you might not even wake up tomorrow, so you might as well experience everything right fucking now.”
It’s perhaps a viewpoint they’ve arrived at with the confidence of having achieved something relatively few bands of their generation have achieved – making it to their fourth album. “I think there’s an element of luck involved, but mostly it’s because we work our arses off,” says Carter, who also came up with the concept for the album’s sleeve. “We never switch off. We never let anything just happen; we steer everything. A bit control freaky, really.”
A fiercely ambitious band, Blood Red Shoes have clear aims for the album: they want it to power them on another massive tour around the world. Their long-running tours have won them huge audiences from Indonesia to Russia, Australia and beyond. Issuing the teaser for their new single, the first message received back was from a fan saying he hoped there was one in Ethiopia.
The most important thing, for Carter and Ansell, is that they’ve rediscovered the passion at their core. “You know like what it felt like when you’re a kid in art class and the teacher goes out and you just throw the paint around?” asks Ansell. “That’s the feeling of freedom that I can hear in the record. It’s really sloppy, and I love that about it.”
As we wind up the year however, the band are now readying their biggest UK shows to date. In February they will embark on a tour of the UK including an NME Awards Show at the legendary Scala in London. Judging by the overwhelming reactions from both live reviews and word of mouth, these dates are definitely not to be missed!

Director, William Williamson:
"I made this film for two reasons: firstly as I find Keaton’s words beautiful - those in ‘You’ are supernal and I wanted to explore them through a different medium. And secondly this film is the beginning stage of creating a larger piece which explores the themes of love found in his work. We have branched out to a number of actors whom we are in awe of and have been humbled to have their support in the project – Derek Jacobi is one of those who agreed to be a part of it.
I find you quickly get absorbed into the nature of the words and music of “You” and found that it reaches out to such breadth that it was important to visualise this, so with zero budget, we turned to archive footage. Exploring obscure memories, experiences and feelings to really get a sense of this stirring work."
Just hours ago at Vegas super club Hakkasan, Avila wrapped up yet another sensational US and Canadian tour that encompassed New York, Long Island, Toronto, Montreal and two dates in Washington DC where he shot the upcoming video for ‘Poseidon’. The Spanish teenager now jets off to make his South African debut at the Rage 4 U Festival before hitting Rome, Budapest and then the UK as part of Tiësto and Calvin Harris’s ‘Greater Than’ tour – when no doubt Poseidon will play a huge part of his electrifying sets.
The track, a thundering combination of deep, throbbing basslines, synth stabs, hammering percussion and drowned melodic lines, more than replicates the energy that Avila has become globally renowned for in his DJ sets, cementing ‘Poseidon’ as a firm fan favourite whenever the Spanish wunderkind steps behind the digital 1s and 2s.
Finishing off a truly incredible year that has included performances at Coachella, Ultra Main Stage, Electric Zoo, Electric Daisy Carnival, Creamfields and many more, Avila will play one final 2013 set at Hakkasan with Tiësto before landing in South Africa for his hotly anticipated NYE show.
Danny Avila – ‘Poseidon’ is out NOW on Beatport through Musical Freedom Records.
