“Our Love” is the glorious slow-burn kaleidoscopic pop…

“Our Love” is the glorious slow-burn kaleidoscopic pop masterpiece forming the backbone of yet another joyous album from Dan Snaith aka Caribou. As Dan explains:

“Our Love” was supposed to be a sort of mellow coda to “All I Ever Need” [the track that precedes it which Owen also wrote the violin arrangements for] but then I made the big bassline and I liked the way it unexpectedly turned 90 degrees in the middle. This track went through a million versions. The bassline was definitely made out of fascination/admiration for dance music that is mind-numbingly simple. When I sent it to Owen and asked him to write parts I was talking about the arrangement and layout of the song as a kind of chess game where the parts move around one another in a sort of dance. He came back with the spectral Penderecki high strings and the more baroque riffs you can hear which we both agreed had to be used super super sparingly so it was more like a little treat for the listener when they appeared.”

The album Our Love is formed around a mixture of digital pop production, hip hop inspired beats, muted house basslines & a love of shuffling garage that can be traced all the way back to the time of Start Breaking My Heart which are, of course, all filtered through Dan’s own unique perspective. The warm analogue sounds of classic soul should not be overlooked either, for they weave themselves most intensely into the records DNA. In fact, Our Love is probably Caribou’s most soulful record to date, chock-full of heartfelt lyrics + organic sounds which cut through the blissful euphoria of bubbling synths & the albums synthetic constructions.

Our Love is due October 7th & features collaborations with Jessy Lanza + Owen Pallett.

Self-proclaimed Jersey Club king, DJ Sliink, hits the road later…

Self-proclaimed Jersey Club king, DJ Sliink, hits the road later this month for The Trifecta Tour. Sliink will be bringing his Jersey Club vibes across the country, accompanied by Atlanta-based dj/producer, Green Lantern, as well as TWRK, the NY trap duo made up of DJs Benzi + eSenTRIK. The trifecta will kick off their tour on August 22nd in NYC at Webster Hall.

DJ Sliink leaves next month after having spent the summer producing a number of killer new tracks, including a collaborative remix with Trippy Turtle of Chris Brown’s “Loyal” & a club ready flip of Danny Brown’s “Smokin & Drinkin.” His latest release is of Australian-born, London-based duo Kito & Reija Lee’s “WORD$.” The track features additional vocal stylings from New York rapper Zebra Katz & here DJ Sliink injects some Jersey Club flavor, jettisoning the track into a “beat-riddled rifle, shooting off a fresh bullet ballad straight into your aural sweet spot.”

UK experimental collective Until The Ribbon Breaks, who…

UK experimental collective Until The Ribbon Breaks, who continually break molds with their mesmeric, infectious, avant-R&B sound, have announced their direct support dates for London Grammar’s North American tour in November 2014.

Having just relocated to Los Angeles, the trio – comprised of Cardiff-born frontman, producer, singer, songwriter + visual artist Pete Lawrie-Winfield (lead vox, keys, percussion, brass); James Gordon (synth); & Elliot Wall (drums) – have just completed a month-long residency at LA’s Bootleg Theater.

After 3 sold-out N. American tours supporting Lorde, Phantogram, & Delorean, + a triumphant stint at SXSW 2014, the band has returned to their studio to add the final touches to their debut album, to be released later this year.

In addition to working on their own tracks, Until The Ribbon Breaks continues to make waves among the blogosphere with their skillfully woven, innovative “re-imaginations” of original tracks, the latest a remix of London Grammar’s “Sights”.
